Qkids FAQ

This is my list of everything you should know about Qkids. These were either pulled straight from their own website or they are from my own personal experience working with Qkids. I will keep updating this as necessary.

About Qkids

Who works for Qkids? Teachers of all backgrounds! Stay-At-Home moms! College students and/or graduates! Individuals with a passion for children. Or anyone who wants to work at home or just have additional income!

Where can I Work from? This is an online, work from home job. You can teach anywhere from the U.S. and Canada.

What Devices do I need? A computer with a webcam, headset with microphone (could be the free headphones that came with your phone) and a stable internet connection (cable connection required).

What are the Internet Requirements? The upload speed should be at least 2Mbps, and the download speed should be at least 10Mbps.

Hiring Process

What Professional Requirements do I need to Apply? A positive attitude and be fluent in proper English. An educational background and/or licensing/certification will help too.

What is the Hiring Process? Apply online with all required materials for the initial screening, followed by 2 demo interviews and then 2-5 trial classes – Hired!

What are the Required Hiring Materials? A Resume, Availability, A Screenshot of Computer Specs and an Introduction Video.

What is the Introduction Video? 1-2 minute video that will introduce yourself, where you live, your educational background, and any experience teaching or working with kids. Then tell or read a children’s story. This is one of the most important part!

How soon can I expect to hear from Qkids after I Apply? If your application materials pass the preliminary screening, you will be contacted within 3 business days for further steps.

Why require a Video Demo? As an alternative to a Skype interview, candidates that make a 1-2-minute-long video of themselves telling or reading a children’s story is more efficient. You can also simply send them the YouTube link, Google Drive link or the video file.

What is Demo Interview 1 and 2? The Demo Interview is a unique combination of interview questions and demonstrating your teaching skills and knowledge. In Demo Interview 1, you will spend most of your time demonstrating technical proficiency (i.e. knowledge of the Qkids’ teaching platform buttons, tools, and how to manage sound and video quality). Then you will answer a few questions about teaching and student interactions. In Demo Interview 2, you will have a full Q&A interview session for about 25 minutes. Afterward, you will briefly demonstrate some of your teaching skills and personality.

What is the Trial Class period? You will be teaching 2 – 5 actual lessons with students. You will receive family and employee feedback specifically for you and your teaching from those classes.

Will I get Paid for the Trial Classes? Yes, you will receive the regular base rate of $8USD per lesson.

How Much do I get Paid? $16 – $20 USD an hour (2 lessons), each in-lesson time is 30 minutes. The base pay is $8 USD per lesson. You can also earn attendance bonus and performance bonus, $1 USD each, calculated weekly. With full bonuses, the pay is $10 per lesson.

How do I Earn my Attendance Bonus? The Attendance Bonus rewards your consistent and timely presence for classes. It is calculated based on your weekly attendance point score. The point score is calculated as follows: (1) Each lesson you teach counts as 1 point. Each point you receive corresponds with one dollar once you have successfully earned 15 points. (2) Each lesson you are absent without a notification or with a short notice (less than 24 hours before the lesson) gets deduction of points. The first absence of the week counts as -1, the second -2 and each following -5. (3) The minimum point to receive the attendance bonus is 15 points at the end of the week (Sunday).

How do I Earn my Performance Bonus? The Performance Bonus (evaluated on a weekly basis) rewards your excellent performance in the class. It is calculated based on the average weekly rating from parents/students. The parents/students rate your performance after each lesson using a 1-5 rating scale. If a teacher receives only ratings of 4’s or 5’s, the lesson is eligible for a $1 USD bonus for that lesson. Any ratings <4 result in a lesson that is not eligible for the bonus.

How Much do I get Paid for Standby Lessons? The payment for standby lessons is $4 USD. If a standby teacher teaches the class, they are paid $8 for the class. Standby teachers get paid $4 just for being available during each lesson slot, even if no students show up.

How Much can I Earn for a Referral Bonus? Referring more talents is highly appreciated. The referral bonus is $100 USD and will be paid after the referred individual is hired. The referral bonus will be automatically added to your monthly payment. Qkids will sometimes run referral promotions, when they are looking for more teachers (in the summer for example), that can be $150 USD per referral.

How and When will I be Paid? All teachers will be paid monthly via bank transfer to your U.S. or Canada bank accounts. The transfer fee is covered by Qkids. The pay date is no later than the 15th of each month where you will be paid for the entire previous month of teaching. The pay date will automatically extend to the next week in the event of any Chinese national holidays.

How Much Tax do I Need to Pay? All Qkids teachers are independent contractors and will be responsible for your own taxes in accordance with state and country laws, and individual tax jurisdictions.

I am a Resident of Canada, do I get Paid in US dollars? Yes, all teachers will be paid in US dollars.

Reviews

I hold a high expectation when it comes to consumer products and services. The best thing we can do is trust one another. I love reading honest reviews, it makes listening to everything else they have to say a lot easier to believe them. I won’t lead you wrong.
